Turbo Troubleshooting

LACK OF POWER/ACCELERATION - EXCESSIVE FUEL CONSUMPTION

1) Turbocharger Pressure Low Check all vacum Lines
2) Restricted Intake System Check for blockage in intake system - Air filter
3) Leak in intake System Check intake plumbing for tightness on seals, tighten if needed.
4) Restricted Exhaust System Check exhaust system for blockage - replace if needed
5) Leak in Exhuast system Check exhaust system for leaks - usually noticed by irregular sound whilst under load.
6) Erratic turbocharger operation Check turbine for play - replace if exessive
   
ABNORMAL NOISE  
1) Heat shields loose Check all fitings around heat shield on unit, tighten if needed
2) Leak in Exhaust system Check for carbon deposits - sound noticed by irregular sound.
3) Erratic turbocahrger operation Check turbine for play - replace if exessive
   
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION  
1) Fualty Turbo Oil seal Check exhaust for signs of oil deposits
-NOTE: usually Blue smoke in exhaust If oil is leaking into exhaust Overhaul Turbocharger
   

TURBO PRECAUTIONS

- Do not stop Engine after heavy work, or towing a trailer, Idle engine for 20-120 seconds depending on how hard it
has been driven.
- Avoid sudden acceleration after starting a cold engine
- If Turbo is found to be defective and repaired, replace the following as necessary:
1)Engine Oil
2)Oil Lines leading to and from turbocharger
